So our June craft classes were all about flower pots! And as a bonus (with July 4th approaching) we made cute subway art plaques to celebrate AMERICA! It was neat to see a couple different ways to use flower pots other than for planting the typical plant or flower.
We used basic terra cotta pots and painted them….some added chalkboard paint so they could write on them…some added polka dots! Look at what everyone came up with!
For the Subway art, I purchased a couple layouts from Etsy. If you hurry, you can get your own and make something cute too! Here are the etsy links:
The subway art links are available for digital download. You can print on paper and frame or display however you like. I printed them on vellum and then we mod podged them on wooden plaques. First the ladies sanded and painted stripes or chevron* patterns on the wood and let them dry. (be sure to let them dry completely!) Then if you want that weatherd/old look you can sand a little of the paint off. Apply mod podge to plaque and front and back of vellum and try to place on plaque and get bubbles out. This can be tricky. 🙂 Once that dries you have a cute handcrafted piece to hang or display for the holiday!
(*Want to create chevron with ease? Try the Chevron Frog pattern tape!!! Look at your local craft or hardware store, or order here at Amazon!) http://www.amazon.com/FrogTape-282549-Painting-Chevron-Design/dp/B00EUTMDQ6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1404146319&sr=8-1&keywords=frog+tape+chevron
As these goodies went home, they found special spots…I love it when the ladies send me pics of their crafts at home. Here are a couple…
And there is still plenty of summer left to gift something special in a pot! (think birthdays, secret sister, graduation…)
Here’s to endless days of Summer and a Happy 4th of July! GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!
